The old boy is doing the old boys proud. Am stuck at work so ain't been able to see any of the tee to green merchants in action but have been watching the leaderboard with interest and really good to see him at the top of it, although how long he will stay there is very questionable. Those bookie chappies rate him as a 125/1 to hold on.
One of my small each-way bets, Ernie Els (along with Perry and Jimenez), has made a nice start -1 after 4 but can still be backed at 40/1. Tiger though out to 11/2 after hitting trouble.
This would have been the most inspirational sports story for a long old time, the triumph of age and skill over power and technology (i know Tom uses modern clubs). So many had their chances though and must be seriously kicking themselves right now, will be interesting to see how messrs Westwood, Goosen and Fisher do in their next event.
Hope Tom gets the consolation of winning the British Seniors Open from Sunningdale this week, yet have my doubts about even his mental ability to come back from that disappointment.
