THE Greyhound Board of Great Britain on Tuesday issued a formal apology to all licence holders over the handling of the controversial recent exercise in pooling samples prior to their analysis at a hastily-arranged GBGB board meeting on Tuesday morning – described as “no holds barred” by chairman Maurice Watkins.

A statement issued by the GBGB began: “The directors unanimously agreed that mistakes had been made in the process and wished on behalf of the Greyhound Board to extend an apology to all licence holders for any concern or confusion caused by insufficient information and consultation about the exercise in pooling samples.”

That in itself represents a significant departure from a Greyhound Regulatory Board missive at the height of the controversy just under two weeks ago which had claimed merely that “incorrect information had been widely disseminated” and it also goes a lot further than the less-than-fulsome apology made by GRB chairman Dr Ian Reynolds at a meet-the-press session last week.

There seems to have been the beginning of something of a coming together of the various factions on Tuesday, but the stronger impression is of being in a holding process until next week.
