But then this "argument" over KP is just going to ask the question
When is a Batsman's job done?
A batsman's job is probably never done but it is unreasonable to expect any batsman to go out and get a century+ every innings. England were in a lot better position when KP was out then when he walked to the crease. If the ball hadnt have hit his helmet it would have got him runs, also everyone would be praising him for an innovative shot. However it happened the opposite way and he was out.
As well as playing for the country, cricketers are also entertainers. people go and pay to watch England play to see the likes of KP and Flintoff, because they are extravegant players.
Also KP has nearly 5000 test runs in less than 4 years, he's been batting like this all the time, so why are people complaining now?
If he wasnt so content to be the best and if he didnt have probably the thickest skin in the world, he'd be probably be better placed just plaing IPL every season for over a £1m a year for 6 weeks work!
The point is that 2 Aussies went on (so far) to get centuries, not one englishman was able to do this...so however good you think KP is, he doesn't always get as many as he seems to be able to and gets out in ways that normal batsmen wouldn't...which i suppose is your point in that he plays unusual innovative shots that do entertain.
it wasnt just KP that didnt go on to get centuries though...
no but some unknown aussies did, and he wants to consider himself one of the very best in the world...oh and what happened to batting for a day? Geoff Boycott made a career of it, so did Allan Border, Rahul Dravid, Steve Waugh etc, etc.
Yes we want to be entertained, but his principle job is to stay at the crease and bat for hours, and that is why less talented players keep their places in national teams.
