On the scenario you set you would get full each way odds as a finisher in top five.
The complications come when there is more than 5 players within the qualifying bet. Rather than list all the scenarios, because there can be lots, the bookies apply deadheat rules to the place stake. Giving one example say 3 tied for 5th place. I think you would get a third of your place stakes on a quarter the odds.
I have put a tenner on Padraig Harrington at Laddies at 40s for my father in law as a present.
I know he is not in great form but he has won it twice on the trot so thought 40s very good value. I actually put a fiver each way on Mon Mome for him for the National so have a good track record when i do bets for him.
Incidentally, the arrogant attitude of the manager in the shop underlines why i dislike the company in the first place.
I do hope BBC show continued highlights of Tiger Woods winning a tournament over the next two days rather than show live play of those actually in with a chance of winning the competition.
Listen, i know he is probably the best golfer to ever play the game but for funks sake he has missed the cut...thats all. Radio 5 this morning had 10 minutes on it. 1/2 a minute on Watson. The networks adoration of him and 99% coverage of him whenever he plays over here has been one of the reasons I laughed my little rounds things off when he missed the cut.
At the half-way house I am fairly pleased with my small stakes each-way bets thus far. Ernie Els (positioned just 6 behind and has the ability, via a good round today, to be right in the thick of it), Kenny Perry (8 behind but still here and not totally out of the equation) and the star of the lot Miguel Angel Jimenez (took 125/1 and is just 2 off the pace).
But is there any value still out there?? I hear you all cry (or are the voices in my head back again?!?). Personally I find the fact that Lee Westwood is now the fav quite ludicrous and actually believe that Jimenez who is still available at 25/1 to be very reasonable still – perhaps a top up is necessary and the Kaymer lad at the same price shouldn’t be looked upon as bad value. Meanwhile should old boy Tom Watson really be a 33/1 shot???
