The Alflora colt is a real beauty. Looks full of quality.

All have been named:

Red Ransom ex Kalinka - named Kalinova, in training with Fanshawe

Royal Applause ex Ffestiniog - named Harlech Castle in training with Cole

Marju ex Baralinka - named Marbles - in training with Fanshawe

Alflora ex Vent D'Aout - named Mithian - not in training - just been gelded!

Polish Precedent ex Generous Diana - named Warsaw Waltz - in training with Given

It's early days yet, but all are doing well. Marbles was a bit naughty when being broken but is OK now. Fanshawe is very keen on Kalinova, more keen than he has been on any of ours since Sov!

We have a couple of others, one homebred Hernando ex Kabayil named Salsa Time (has bad conformation, not sure if she will stand training) and a Nayef ex Travesty filly named Lemon Sherbet, bought cheaply; both in training with Camacho.

Is this what the Elite Racing Club are brainwashing their members with now. Convincing them that they've got 'stars of the future' as their current crop are so poor?

I tell you what Goebbals could have learnt something from our friends in Devizes when it comes to propoganda!

Barney

Go away! Apart from the quote from Fanshawe, I have seen all of these youngsters (the pictures might be a giveaway there). All of them were quality individuals, probably one of the nicest crop (with one exception), that we have had. The Red Ransom is now over her problems and really blooming. I aint being brainwashed into anything. I have got eyes in my head and whilst I am not an expert, but I know quality when I see it. The Red Ransom was foot sore when I saw her and had ulcers so was not looking well, but her overall class shone through and she is now showing it at home.

Next you will be telling me their names are not real!

Supersov, 95% of yearlings look like quality individuals in the same way that 95% of babies look beautiful. The reality is though that very few of either grow up into champions.

Why are you focussing on horses that are a long way from reaching the track? Is it because you or the dreaded ERC want to keep attention away from their current form?

Barney

Am not 'focussing' on anything. One aspect I really enjoy is watching the babies grow and progress. And by the way, a lot of youngsters do not show quality as they constantly change whilst growing. An example is the Allfora, Mithian. Saw him as a foal and whilst nice, was extremely large and ran the risk of growing into an enormous animal that would take years to grow into his frame. He was also extremely nervy around people and wouldn't approach anyone. A year later I saw a completely different individual. He hadn't grown too much and was perfectly in proportion. I changed my mind completely; he really takes the eye and is now a relaxed individual that takes everything in his stride.

The Kabayil filly, Salsa Time, is a clear example of 'not a nice foal/yearling', in terms of build and conformation. She has been quite weak and 'dishes' (I have seen her walk); one foreleg turns to the extent that the stud were quite concerned when cuts appeared, that she was striking into herself. Guess that really shows I am blind to everything!

PS. Am not concerned about form, with just two runners since the turn of the year, both have won. Give up your bad mouthing Barney. Have a resolution to pick on something else!!

PPS. I don' t think babies are beautiful!

Supersov, I think we both agree that the yearlings could be anything. As is the case with almost every horse of that age.

However you can not say that about ERC's current horses in training portfolio. Where's the current star that in previous years won the club rich and famous pots?
What horse is going to catapult ERC into the top 10 list of owners as in previous years? I thin you'll agree that this horse(s) don't exist at the moment.

By the way the races that ERC have won this year were both egg and spoon events worth a total of less than £14,000. Hardly the sort of return you expect from a Club with millions of pounds at their disposal.

And the reason that I continue to bad mouth the Club is because I think it is extremely bad value for money in that knowledgeable members are treated like dirt with no intelligent betting advice offered and continually fobbed off by being told that unraced horses are potentially superstars when they obviously aren't. If you want to be told that every runner has a 'each-way chance on their best form' then its all well and good otherwise don't join. If my rants can't stop just one person wasting £169+ then I think my moaning will have been of some reward.

Barney

We've been down this road before. I do not care if we do not have any stars. So long as we have runners and they can win a few races I am happy. As I have said before, I was a member when we didn't breed much and bought the majority of horses out of sellers and claimers.

I don't recall anyone saying that ANY horse was a potential superstar. We might have been told when a horse works like a star, but we all know that that doesn't always translate to the track. But most owners will tell you that dreaming you are going to get a star is what it is all about.

We have been extremely lucky in recent years and many have been spoilt by Sov's exploits and think that is what it is all about. For the majority of us, it is not. Having a couple of quiet years might get rid of those who are in it to win money. Also, you only have to read the letters to see that some really don't have a clue about either horses or racing. The majority of critisicms re betting come from men and other criticisms (especially re. naming) come from women (me excluded).

The betting information makes no appeal to me. If people do not have the common sense or brains to make their own decision, then tough on them. I am in it purely through the love of horses and racing and I would never, ever, be able to afford a more serious involvement, although a friend keeps trying to sell me shares in horses with Charlie Longsdon!

PS. Only new joiners pay £169 and I for one couldn't give a damn if others didn't join.

Gotta go, I actually need to do some work!!

Supersov, don't forget that a 5/1 winner of a claimer pays the same as a 5/1 winner of the Epsom Derby.

When my mate was a member for 12 months (which ended last summer) in the whole of that time the Club never once gave any more than a 5 point bet on any horse. This despite they being at least one incident of the ERC management filling their boots on one of their own runners (Trompette I know of definitely). Are you telling me that in the whole of this period (when they had over a dozen winners) they never fancied one of them...come on the betting advice (which I'm sure is the primary reason most people join) is a complete joke.

You say that most people should make their own decision when it comes to placing bets. Up to a point this is correct but being somebody who has benefited from 'inside information' for years (in particular from the Henderson yard, that is how I knew how big a cert Trompette was that day) I can tell you that this is the most reliable tool to have in your betting armoury. Without being told how horses are working and progressing at home then you are largely guessing as to their condition and what their performance will be on the racetrack.

This Charlie Longdson syndicate isn't through Axom is it?

No its through a friend and Lady Rebecca's owners. They have a filly out of Beccie with CL.

I don't take much notice, he is always trying to get people to buy into these things!

I understand what you are saying about inside information. It can be invaluable. As I said I ignore the betting advice given by Elite, but can you honestly tell me they change what the trainers tell them and tell us something different? That is a huge risk to take.... I only back very small stakes as the gambling is not important to me (she says, trying to convince herself!!). No one is forced to take their advice.

If people want to join simply for gambling, then that is their decision. Horses are not machines and whatever the information given (or not), you cannot guarantee what the result is going to be.
