1997 St Leger winner and Derby runner up, Silver Patriarch has died. The 15 year old had been pensioned from stallion duties earlier this year and had returned to the National Stud for his retirement. Amoung his other racing triumphs were the 1998 Coronation Cup (G1) and Gran Premio del Jockey Club Milan (G1). He also placed in 2 Irish St Legers. At stud his most famous offspring is Party Boss.

His battle up the Epsom straight with Benny The Dip (me having backed  BTD) was one I will always remember. R.I.P

Appears he died in his paddock this morning, probably of a heart attack.
