Following allegations from Nelson Piquet Jr and the upcoming hearing. Renault have decided not to contest the claim, and Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds have both resigned.
Admission of guilt I pressume. How bad does this look for the sport? The fact that Piquet was risking his F1 career revealing made me feel there is a truth in this.
Where does this leave Renault as a team and also the sport as a whole?
Eddie Irvine has come out and claimed that teams have been sabotaging races for years, however this seems to be slightly out of the norm, which is shown by the resignations of Flav and Pat. How this all works out from here is a complete mystery. Surely after the Hungary incident with Alonso the book must be thrown at Renault, and they should be stopped from racing for the rest of the year, maybe it means they quit the F1 scene, but it does appear that the sport has enough lure for 3-4 other teams ready to step into the breach next year already.
