Bloodhorse
Most Welcome, an English group II winner and sire of champions, was euthanized in Sweden because of a fractured pastern, according to the Racing Post. The 25-year-old stallion started his stud career at Meddler Stud in England and was sent to Ravdansen Stud in Sweden in 2004.
Bred in Great Britain by White Lodge Stud, Most Welcome (Be My Guest--Topsy, by Habitat) won or placed in nine English group events. He finished second in the 1987 Ever Ready Epsom Derby (Eng-I) to Reference Point. In his four North American races for owner Philip Jack Oppenheimer, he managed to place in the 1989 Breeders’ Cup Mile (gr. IT) and the 1988 Turf Classic (gr. IT). He retired with earnings of $621,355.
Most Welcome sired such champions as French high-weighted miler Suances among his 22 stakes winners. Suances also raced in the United States, capturing two stakes, including the 2002 San Francisco Breeders’ Cup Mile Handicap (gr. IIT). Most Welcome sired other North American graded stakes winners Call Me, Eccentric, and Prize Giving.
