anyone still want to call him a flat track bully who doesn't go left handed and can't get up the hill in a decent run race???

Thought not.
Fantastic.

Day of days for me. Zaynar (cheers barney). Weapons Amnesty at 11s. Big lump on the Star and to conclude it all got the placepot up.
Just about feeling human again now.....

I'm probably going to annoy some people here, however, fair play to Kauto he beat what was in front of him.

HOWEVER

To say it was breathtaking is a little bit OTT.

Like 2007 it went at a stroll, half way round the first lap it was Kauto's race because Sam Thomas did NOT ride Denman how he should have been

Like ive said, Im not taking anything away from Kauto, fair play on the day, but as for how far can he go.....

There is a fully fit Denman to consider and a VERY VERY good horse called Cooldine to factor in.....

Based on that Gold Cup win i wouldnt say that nothing could beat Kauto, the race was run just how he liked it.

But please no one take offence, fair play to Kauto and Ruby

PS it wasnt a decent run race. Simple,

it was a plod

Matt consider this then. Denman beat Neptune the same distance he did the year before, so I would say the form pretty much help up there. Exotic being thrown in makes that even more solid. Kauto either wasn't right last year or he has improved. He has one of the best cruising speeds yet couldn't lay up with Denman at all, I find that strange. Hopefully all being well the rematch will be on for next year, just hope time isn't going to catch up with them.

No horse has achieved more since Dessie, he has won over all sorts of distances, tracks, grounds.

Totally agree with this statement.

Would urge people to factor in Cooldine next year though and not to think it will simply be a case of Kauto v Denman Mark III.  His win in the RSA Chase on Wednesday took my breath away.

I just can't wait for the 2010 Gold Cup

The rematch, it's 1-1 at the minute, who'll win?

I've backed Denman already at 8's, he's back, it's official after that run. a long summer off, and he'll be back big style next year.

Kauto will return just as good as ever.

Coildine, he's good, but won't get near the pair!

We can guess that Kauto starts out with the David Nicholson at Downroyal, followed by the King George and rounded off with the GC.

Where does Denman run? I would think the Betfair then the Lexus and onto the GC.

Can't see either of them turning out more than twice before the big one.

As for Exotic Dancer, he should be aimed solely at the GN next season, could have a run or two over hurdles (Long Walk?), although don't actually think his jumping would stand up to the particular Aintree marathon because he often just niggles at the fence and brushes the top, that could become very tiring pushing all the brush away...

Denman will surely start @ Newbury in November, that was the plan this season, until the set back, yes it's a handicap, but he can carry big weights.

Agree re KS, just the 3 runs.

I certainly will never call Kauto a flat track bully anymore or say he is better right handed. Now that Nicholls has discovered that he requires rest between his races his form makes more sense. I am simply in awe of his performance and overall record.

On my speed ratings Denman was only slightly below last years rating. Kauto ran a rating just below his King George best but to my eyes had plenty left in the tank. Only age or injury can catch up with either of that pair.

Cooldine, although impressive, was not particularly fast in the RSA and I suspect that this was a weak renewal. I'm not saying he isn't a Gold Cup horse just that the form isn't strong.

I would be very surprised if Cooldine started anywhere other than the Henenssy at Newbury - Willie Mullins did the same in 2007 with his star novice from the season before, namely Snowy Morning.  Off 161 this would be at his mercy I would suspect.

Good on you tetinj for writing that. Incredibly the horse and the performance he gave on Friday still seem to have some doubters both here and at large.
As you say if injury stays away next year and he stuffs Denman when BOTH are at their peak maybe that fat oaf Findlay will take defeat graciously.
