Deputy Commander, who won the 1997 Travers Stakes (G1) has been euthanized due to a decline in his physiological and neurological health. He was 15. During his racing career he won 4 of his 13 starts, which also included the Super Derby (G1) and the Affirmed Handicap (G3).  He was also runner up in the 1997 Breeders' Cup Classic.

As a sire his most famous offspring was Ten Most Wanted who also won the Travers and was second in the Belmont Stakes.
