CURTAIN CALL, a leading fancy for last year's Derby, had to be destroyed after suffering an injury in Saturday's Group 3 Totesport.com September Stakes at Kempton.
The Sadler's Wells colt lost his action early in the straight in the 1m4f contest - won by Godolphin's Kirklees - and was pulled up around 50 yards from the wining post after suffering a hind leg injury.
Trainer Luca Cumani said: "It's very sad he got struck into on his off hind leg and such was the severity of the injury that sadly the vet has no alternative but to humanely destroy him."
Curtain Call finished unplaced to New Approach at Epsom last year but showed that running to be all wrong when a close fifth to Frozen Fire in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby despite being badly hampered.
He returned to winning form when making all for a three-length victory at the Curragh in May and picked up £217,084 in career prize-money.
