FORMER jockey Chris Dexter, who worked for Josh Gifford during the 1970s and rode winners on French Colonist and Manicou Bay, has died at the age of 53 following a long illness with cancer.

After leaving racing, Dexter became a master carpenter and later moved to London where he was also a part-time carriage driver at Hampton Court Place.

The funeral takes place at Barham Crematorium in Kent on Tuesday, June 9, starting at 2.40pm, to be followed by a reception at the nearby Rose & Crown.
